The wind runs swiftly over the sea,
sweeps the waves against the shore
and jumps over the dunes
to rest in the marram grass.
When you stand on top of the dunes, you can see and feel the power of the wind. But just behind the top, in the protection of a slope in the dunes, it is wonderful to sit and rest while listening to the surf.
It is a beautiful, sunny day when we climb the high dunes on the coast of the North Sea. As usual, we went to the nature reserve Nationalpark Thy. This park is so large (about 40 kilometers long), that we by far haven’t seen all of it. This time we stayed close to home: a walk near the Lodbjerg lighthouse, where the dunes are 25 to 35 meters high, but there is almost no beach. When it storms, the sea ‘eats’ away the dunes.
