Fighting sea and winds
waves keep lashing the dunes
backwards goes the land
If there is one town in the area where I live that belongs in my ‘Lost cities’ gallery, then it is the town of Agger, located just behind the narrow strip of dunes along the North Sea.
The current church of Agger dates from 1838 and was built when the North Sea threatened the old church. In the past few hundred years, the coast has shifted about one and a half kilometers (about a mile) to the east. The town of Agger has moved with the coastline, many houses have disappeared into the sea in recent centuries.
‘Fighting sea and winds’ is a photo in the gallery ‘Lost cities‘.
