Winter Sunset (9)

Not quite a sunset yet, but close.
When the sun pierces through the cloud cover in winter, I have to take my chance. Too often the sun disappears behind a thick gray blanket immediately after briefly showing itself, only to show its face again the next day (or even a few days later). And if it also feels like the sun kisses the world before going to sleep, I have another good reason to quickly make a series of photos....

'Winter Sunset (9)' is a newly added photo to my collection 'Evening Falls'. I made it standing on the dunes, north of the town of Agger.

Prints are also available in my Saatchi Art portfolio at the artwork page or contact me for a quote.

Through my artworks I ask you to reflect for a moment on the nature around you, on the beautiful feeling that nature can evoke, on what we lose when we continue on the road of 'never enough'.

Golden Haze

And now the day is over,
fragile silence rises from the ground
Sunlight swirls through the forest
plays with old trees in a golden haze

I made this photo during an evening walk through the beautiful forest Dover Plantage, near the town of Hurup Thy in North Jutland, Denmark.

A Crack In The Sky

Shattered daylight
The night is approaching
through a crack in the sky

Sunset on a clear winter day. The sky shatters like glass, to allow the night to enter the earth.

Unfinished Dreams

Early morning light
Patches of unfinished dreams
float towards eternity

The soft light conjures vague veils between the trees, like pieces of dreams floating into eternity upon awakening.

Burning Sunset (4)

In a burning sunset,
the last breath of the day
welcomes the night

A cold evening at the end of a heavily cloudy, gray winter day. Just before the sun sets, the clouds open up allowing the light for a brief but intense moment to say hello to the night.

Sunset over the North Sea, seen from the hamlet in North Jutland, Denmark, where I live.

Lost

Colors disappear in the mist
I am overwhelmed by silence,
alone, afraid that I've lost my way
But then I realize, to find the way
is to stop looking

A gray, foggy day. A day like so many, where you only see vague outlines of the path you are walking. The silence and lack of sight are oppressive at first. Until you regain peace and confidence, and let the trees guide you.

Floating On Frozen Silence

Bare trees, floating on frozen silence
A cold morning breeze caresses your face
Footsteps gently break the fresh snow

It's early in the morning. It has been snowing all night, there is no one else in the forest. Carefully you take a step into the fresh snow….

I made this photo in the beautiful forest Dover Plantation, near the town of Hurup Thy in Denmark.

Lonely morning

A lonely cold morning
Footsteps muffled
Endless carpet of stillness

Fresh snow, as far as the eye can see. The forest looks spacious, light, and larger than usual. It is quiet, and the world feels deserted. Only the muffled crunch of my footsteps in the fresh snow.

After two years without 'real' snow, last week we had a few centimeters of snow. A wonderful moment to enjoy the silence of a white forest.

I made this photo in the beautiful forest Dover Plantation, near the town of Hurup Thy in Denmark.

In Daylight

Embrace the joy of daylight
Find comfort in the bright light
of a fresh breeze and the winter sun

Our day with no screens, no internet and (almost) no electricity was a breath of fresh air.

Literally, because we took a long walk. Figuratively, because we reflected and talked about our online time and use of electrical devices. Even in our minimalistic household, this generated several immediately implementable ideas, providing peace of mind, time for reflection, time to do different things for a change, and saving on our CO2 emissions.

So we will continue to do this. One day i-off and e-off every week.
We can heartily recommend it, if only to become aware of your i-use and e-use and the alternatives that are available.

In Darkness

Embrace the silence of darkness
Find comfort in the scant light
of a candle and the winter sun

Anuscka and I decided to spend a day "in darkness" every week. Figuratively speaking that is, it will be a day with minimal use of electricity and no use of the internet, and screens in general.

Why? Because we are curious to see how we like it. Because we want to spend less time behind screens. Because we would like to have a recurrent period of silence and reflection. Because using very little electricity for a day contributes significantly to reducing our CO2 footprint...
